A Single Man For Tom Ford!

Tom Ford

Fashion guru Tom Ford hosted a private star studded private screening to celebrate his directorial debut “A Single Man”  last night at The Museum Of Modern Art in New York city along with Cinema Society. Some of Hollywood’s heavy names showed up in Tom’s support with the likes of Madonna, Julianne Moore, Kevin Bacon, and a lot more.

In an earlier interview with The Wall Street Journal last month Tom spoke apprehensively about the film saying  “It’s extremely autobiographical,” he says. “When you watch it, you are inside my head for an hour and a half.”

Set in early-’60s Los Angeles, “A Single Man,” which displays the the sexy texture of Almodovar, follows a day in the life of a gay British English professor (Colin Firth), who copes with the sudden death of his longtime partner with the help of  a female friend (played by Julianne Moore). “If you know anything about Tom, it’s that he’s so meticulous and prepared that it wasn’t like working with a first-time director,” Moore told us.

The movie taps into Ford’s own life on several levels. “There are so many similarities,” said Ford, smartly dressed in a Tom Ford suit, white shirt, and black tie that resembles the uniform of Firth’s character in the film. Ford readily admits that both he and the film’s protagonist are rather meticulous, to say the least, and have, at moments, felt isolated and depressed. Not to mention, the canine in the film is actually Ford’s own pooch and the surname of the main character was the name of Ford’s first boyfriend.

“I’m fortunate enough to have experienced extreme materialism in my life, but the point of the film is to remind us of the little things in life — not some new shoes you bought or a new car,” Ford said. Our culture, he added, is so obsessed with the next great thing that we forget that “life’s about living in the present. We live in an artificial world. In the fashion business, you live in the future for the next collection. But when I spend  time on my ranch in New Mexico—with the sun above me and the rattlesnakes growing under the bush—I appreciate the present.”
